Diagnosis
Unlike the western medical practice of simply determining the number or heartbeats per minute, pulse diagnosis is a complex and subtle form of diagnosis that interprets the flow of blood in the radial artery at the wrist. One of the world’s foremost living master of pulse diagnosis, Dr. Zhang Wei-Yin, has personally trained Tom Williams, L.Ac. in this ancient practice. Tom is dedicated to mastering pulse diagnosis and incorporating it into his treatment protocol.
Treatment
Most acupuncture clinics in the United States practice Traditional Chinese Medicine in which needles are inserted directly into the area of pain. While effective for certain conditions, this method runs the risk of aggravating the pain. In contrast, Japanese and Taiwanese methods of acupuncture incorporate distal (i.e., distant) points in which needles are primarily used on the feet, hands, and ears.
Regular Re-examinations
At the Turning Point Center, re-examinations are an essential component of your treatment plan. At each examination, pulse and tongue diagnosis are performed, along with a series of palpation-based tests to locate places where the flow of blood and energy is blocked. This objective information is the basis for all treatment decisions and enables the practitioner to determine how well the treatments are addressing the cause(s) of your condition.
Education
At Turning Point Center, education is an important part of what we offer. We teach monthly classes, provide
informational handouts on a wide range of topics, interpret your exam results in lay terms, and offer thorough explanations during treatments. We encourage patients to become educated about acupuncture and careful observers of their evolving condition.
